Iron

"...Never lose your temper with a knife in your hand..."

Fay is serving a life sentence and Josie, her daughter, comes to see her for the first time in ten years. As the two women start to build a relationship, Josie begins to remember the day when she found her father lying dead on the sofa.

4Play began work on Iron in September 2007 and performed it at The Courtyard - Hereford's Centre for the Arts - on January 23rd to 26th, 2008.

The more 4Play worked on Iron the more enthusiastic they became about how well written the play was. Rona Munro is an award winning writer and Iron was one of the acclaimed hits to emerge from the 2002 Edinburgh Festival, where it premiered at the Traverse Theatre.

Iron is a play full of subtleties, insinuations, and presumptions, making it a beautifully intriguing piece. Coupled with the stark content and contrasting characters, the play is made accessible and thoroughly enjoyable for all.

A discussion with the cast and director took place after the show on Thursday 24th.
